CULMWOODS A WOODLAND CO-OP
Blackdown Hills Woodland Association
There are woodland owners such as the woodland trust, the National Trust and private owners that are finding it increasingly more difficult to manage their woodlands with in their budgets.
Culmwoods will bring together like minded people that need woodfuel to manage woodlands that would not normally be managed because of cost restraints. Culmwoods will be a membership co-op with 5 million pound insurance and risk assessment policies so it can work within the trusts, commissions, and private woods.
Members of the group will have access to woodfuel in exchange for work, pro rata, with all machinery operated by certificated members and contractors, all fire wood quality going to the membership.
There will be different levels of membership from the basic “scavenger” to “professional”, and woodfuel to reflect the amount of work done and membership fee to reflect this. Culmwoods will be a democratic co-op with all members having a vote but with a working steering group, the membership fee will go towards the co-op insurance and small amount of admin. There will also be a place for Volunteers to help with conservation and monitoring in the woodland being managed, this will be linked to the AONB volunteering Hub.
Culmwoods is part of the Association
So the basic idea is you pay your yearly membership turn up on designated work days, work and receive woodfuel, it could not be simpler.
